BlogBridge Speed Reading
From BlogBridge Wiki
OK, some BlogBridge annoyances first (as of November 2006 in BlogBridge 3.7):
- If you are using the BlogBridge synchronization service (BlogBridge Menu bar / Tools / BlogBridge Service) then you might notice that the guides order is not properly saved between BlogBridge sessions. The fitting BlogBridge forum thread is: BB3.4 - Sync does not save guide order - pls. check for improvements.
- Reading articles or better ... Switching from article to article by using the space bar will always jump to the next unread article. This is pretty annoying if an article is longer than your available monitor or BlogBridge window space. It is also pretty annoying when you did not finish reading an article and pushing space beams you to the next unread article in another guide. In this case the brain in front of the monitor will have to remember the last read guide and feed to go back manually. The fitting and pretty complicated forum thread is: Space bar jumps to next article ...
BlogBridge is a great tool for speed reading feeds!
BlogBridge comes with a great set of keyboard shortcuts which will definitely speed up your feed reading behavior!
(More in BlogBridge Menu bar / Help / Keyboard Shortcuts ...)
- Use the Space bar to jump to the next unread article and mark the current article as read.
- Use Shift-Space to jump to the previous unread article and mark the current article as read.
- Use Ctrl-Cursor-down to jump to the next article in the article view.
- Use Ctrl-Cursor-up to jump to the previous article in the article view.
- Use Tab once to switch from the article list to the guide list. Select new guide with the cursor.
- Use Shift-Tab once (or Tab twice) to switch from the article list to the feed list. Select new feed with the cursor.
- Toggle read/unread status
- As Tab switching does not affect the status of the read article the shortcut 'Q' comes handy. It simply toggles the read/unread state of the current article.
- Mark a whole feed read with Ctrl-Shift-Q
- Ultra fast shoot and run shortcut: A feed is also marked read with Ctrl-Space. This shortcut also jumps to the next unread article. Yes, one way beaming (!) is possible.
- My personal recommendation is to NOT activate automatic read status for articles, feeds and guides in BlogBridge Menu bar / Tools / Preferences / General / Behavior. By activation you loose control.
Using the Space bar too fast will result in a wish to return to the last read article (if only unread articles are shown) or to scroll back in the article list without changing the state of the current article.
In a perfect world it would be easy to achieve this by an advanced Shift-Space jump option (read: Undo/Go back). But as the discussion in Space bar jumps to next article ... shows this is pretty complex because of some, well, complex technical implications. So, this option does not exist (yet).
But BlogBridge offers some keyboard shortcut workarounds which should be used in such cases:
If you hit the Space bar one time too much AND you are still in the same feed
- Use Ctrl-Cursor-up to go back.
If an article was marked read but you want to keep it unread
- After (!!!) marking the article read with space you simply switch to Ctrl-Cursor-up and type Q which will change article state to unread (Q toggles that state!).
If you simply want to keep an article unread
- Before (!!!) marking the article read with space you simply switch to Ctrl-Cursor-down and then the status remains unchanged and you jump to the next article (depending on article view mode).
Inspiration for this bumpy last part came from: [Mark as unread and select next item]
